Parashat Hashavuah – Korach
The L-rd commanded Moses to keep Aaron’s rod before the ark to be kept
as a sign for future generations. Hebrews 9:4 tell us three things were kept
in the ark; the golden jar holding the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded and
the tables of the covenant.
Each of these items symbolizes the three offices of Messiah: prophet,
priest, and king. In Messiah’s first coming he primarily acted as a prophet.
The manna symbolizes His prophetic ministry. Bread is often referred to as
the Word of G-d. Deut. 8:3 says, “He fed you with manna, that He might
make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives
by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the L-rd.” What proceeded
out of Messiah’s mouth was G-d’s Word. Yeshua said in John 6:41, “I AM
the bread that came down out of heaven.”
The rod that budded symbolized Messiah’s resurrection ascension. This is
His priestly ministry. He offered His sinless blood on the altar in the
heavenly Temple as the final sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the world.
He sits at the right hand of the Father to make intercession for us. Yeshua is
the rod that blossomed; the righteous branch that came back to life.
The tablets of the covenant represent His Kingship. A King is a lawgiver.
Messiah’s Kingship will be fully realized at His second coming and
millennial reign. Nations will seek Him and bring gifts to Him. The Torah will
go forth from Zion as foretold by Isaiah 2:3, “And many peoples will come
and say, come, let us go up to the mountain of the L-rd, to the house of the G-
d of Jacob; that He may teach us concerning His ways, and that we may
walk in His paths. For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the L-rd
from Jerusalem.”
