Toldot - Generations
Torah - Gen. 25:19 - 28:9
Haftarah - Malachi 1:1 - 2:7
Gospel - Matthew 13 - 14
In our studies we see Isaac praying for Rebekah his wife. Gen. 25:21
says, "Isaac prayed to the L-rd on behalf of his wife, because she was
barren; and the L-rd answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived."
The Scriptures mention many important women who were barren and
later conceived very important children such as Sarah, Hannah and
Elizabeth. For twenty years Rebekah was barren. It is normal for
couples to desire children. At this time and place in history it was
critical for Isaac and Rebekah to bring forth a child. The promises of
Abraham could not be fulfilled without a child being born. Without
children the promises could not be passed to the next generation.
Due to Isaac's and Rebekah's persistent prayers and trust that G-d would
answer, Rebekah conceived. Not only did she conceive but she
received a double blessing of twins.
Yeshua encourages us to be persistent in prayer. Luke 11:9 says, "Ask
and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will
be opened to you."
