Vayeshev - And He Dwelt

Torah - Gen. 37:1 - 40-23
Haftarah - Amos 2:5- 3:8
Apostolic - Matt. 19 & 20
This sidra contains the temptation of Joseph.  If a person falls prey to a
sexual temptation, they should immediately confess their sin, renounce it and
start over.  Sexual temptation, they should immediately confess their sin,
renounce it and start over.  Sexual temptation is persistent.  So a person
may have to do this several times a day.  Never give up the fight.

Our culture in America is constantly being bombarded with sexual images.
Sex is used to sell everything.  Music sends out all kinds of sexual
messages.  It seems to be the most common obstacle to living a life of
godliness.  Sexual temptation was known as a problem just for men, but that
is no longer the case.  Our culture has taught our children that there are no
absolute values, "do what feels right for you."  So living together, divorce,
illegitimate children being born to single parents are all on the rise.

Sexual temptation is persistent.  Potiphar's wife as also persistent in
attempting to seduce Joseph.  I Cor. 10:13 promises that G-d will not allow
you to be tempted beyond what you are able to stand, and He always
provides a way of escape.

One of the strategies used by Joseph was distance.  Don't let yourself be
alone with a person you have a sexual attraction to.  He also fled.  1 Cor.
6:18 also instructs us to flee immorality.  Don't go into the adult video stores,
avert your eyes from magazines, books, television programs, your neighbor
or anything which would cause lust to rise in your heart.  We should be
attempting to get out of any situation where we face sexual temptation as
quickly as we can.
