In this weeks parsha we see that G-d gives very special instructions for
approaching Him. Nadab and Abihu the sons of Aaron have made a fatal
error and approached G-d to offer Him strange fire. They approached G-d
with an offering of their own choosing. The Torah tells us one comes into
His Presence by an acceptable offering. Lev. 16 to 18 gives us the
instructions for the Day of Atonement. This was the only day the High Priest
could come before G-d to offer the appropriate offerings to remove sin from
Israel as a community. By tradition, the night before Yom Kippur or the Day
of Atonement, the High Priest would spend the night in prayer to prepare.
Other priest would watch over him and pray for him throughout the night.
Yeshua also prepared for the day He would accomplish complete
atonement for us. He also spent the night in prayer in the Garden of
Gethsemane and asked His disciples to watch and pray. The next day He
became our Passover Lamb (1 Cor. 5:7) and atoned for our sins (Heb.
2:17). When we approach G-d through Yeshua's sacrifice, we live. His
Presence fills us with life. Yeshua is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
