This sidra opens with the command to Aharon to light the lamps of
the menorah, a seven-branched candelabrum that stood in the
sanctuary.

Aharon’s duties as the High Priest are described in this sidra.
Aaron’s task was to raise up every soul, to bring out the Divine
within the person from its concealment in the subconscious.  Aaron’
s spiritual achievement was not only to light the flame in the souls
of the Jewish people, but to get them to a place where they would
give light to their own.  He did not simply create disciples, people
who were dependent on his inspiration.  He engendered in them a
love of G-d that they could sustain without his help.  It is not the
prerogative of a priest or preacher, or a chosen few to spread the
light of the Scriptures.  The task belongs to every believer, both as
a privilege and as an obligation.  There are shads and levels of
holiness.  We must light this flame of holiness and awaken our
spirits and others, to the highest decree of sanctity possible.  A
light your spirit with the Scriptures.  The flame will burn with love
and shed the light of truth within you, G-d’s sanctuary, and from
there to the whole world.  There was a peculiarity of the Temple,
that its windows were broad on the outside and narrow within.
This was done so the light could go out to the world.  We also are
unique, with special talents to bring to our work and are sources of
light for a dark world.  Yeshua said, “I AM the way, the truth and
the life.
