In this portion of Scripture we see there is a uniqueness regarding the 10th
plague.  First, the Jews had to put blood on the door post and lintel of their
homes so the plague would pass over them.  Then they had to remain
indoors throughout the night because the force of destruction makes no
distinction between righteous and the wicked.  Why were these provisions
necessary?

The other plagues were not primarily to destroy, but to create in the
Egyptians an awareness of G-d.  Also those afflicted were not killed.  The
last plague was a punishment, the instrument of G-d's strict justice,
therefore these safeguards were needed to distinguish Jew from Egyptian.
G-d's love is unconditional, present and constant.  G-d expects an active
response of obedience to His love.  Our response must at times be
unconditional going beyond the limits of rationality.

The lab that was required was an Egyptian deity.  Not only were the
Israelites to kill it, but they also had to keep it for four days beforehand with
the full knowledge of how the Egyptians felt about it.  So the Paschal lamb
was a sign of the loving response to G-d that surpassed reason.

Here was a faith that went beyond reason.  The land of Egypt was closed in
to the slave.  How hard was it to believe that 600,000 could escape, a
people broken by the rigors of oppression, and threatened with extinction
through Pharaoh's  decree that every male child be drowned.  The pure
faith with which the Israelites believed in Moses mission and G-d's
deliverance went far beyond the rational.

How is your love and faith towards G-d this day?
