We are quickly approaching a very important season in the spiritual realm
called the season of the Basilisk. It begins July 3rd or Tammuz 17 and
continues until July 24th or the 9th of Av. For many Jews this is a time of
mourning. Many things have happened on these days. On the 17th of
Tammuz: Moses smashed the first set of tablets at Mount Sinai; the daily
sacrifices ceased; the Torah scroll was burned in the Temple by a man
named Apostomos; an idol was erected in the Temple; and Jerusalem's
walls were breached. On the 9th of Av: 122 BC the rebellious Israelites were
not  allowed to enter the promised land; 586 BC the Babylonian army
destroyed the First Temple in Jerusalem; 70 AD the Romans destroyed the
Second Temple in Jerusalem; 135 AD Bethar the stronghold of the Bar
Kochba revolt fell ending all hope for Jewish independence; 1096AD the first
crusades began; 1290AD Jews were expelled from England; 1306AD Jews
were expelled from France; 1492AD Jews were expelled from Spain; 1914
World War I was declared; 1942 plans for the annihilation of Jews escalated
World War II.

Zechariah 8:19 the L-rd declares these two particular days as fast days.
"Thus says the L-rd of Host, "The fast of the fourth, the fast of the fifth, the fast
of the seventh and the fast of the tenth months will become joy, gladness, and
cheerful feasts for the house of Judah; so love truth and peace." The fouth fast
is Tammuz 17th and the fifth fast is the 9th of Av. G-d is a G-d of order, as we
have seen in these dates and events, and has appointed days of significance.

These three weeks or twenty one days are to be a time of consecration,
repentance and prayer. Intercession can nullify the spiritual plans of the
enemy for Israel and our nation. Great and notable end-time purposes are
presently being birthed and the enemy is doing all that he can to abort the
destiny of the next generation. This season is called by Jewish writers Bein
Ha'm'tarim which means between the straits or dire straights. It is a time
according to Rabbis that a prince demon called Ketev or Basilisk translated
"cockatrice" or "adder" brings destruction and bitterness. It is during this time
that natural death has increased from plagues, sickness and disease and
natural disasters and terrorism has occurred. We find mention of this spirit in
Psamls 91:13; Isaiah 14:29; Isaiah 11:8; Isaiah 59:5; Proverbs 23:32; and
Jeremiah 8:17. The Egyptians worshipped this spirit as the lord and king of
serpents.

These periods of mourning and fasting were to be conducted until the
promise of the coming restoration of Judah and the Messianic Kingdom. The
ancient leaders recognized that the righteous must be hidden in the secret
place (intercession in the Presence of G-d) of the Most High during this time
of trouble, which they believed was a dress rehersal for the birth pangs of
Messiah (Isa. 26:17-21; Zephaniah 2:3). According to these Rabbis the heat
of the noonday from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. was a time of extreme activity for this
evil spirit.

On July 16, 1994, which was the 9th of Av, twenty one pieces of a comet
called the Shoe-maker-Levi comet began to bombard the planet Jupiter.
Jupiter is recognized through Greek mythology and the Roman empire as a
symbol of idolatry and paganism. It is clearly prophetically significant that this
comet began its assault on this day. The heavens always declare the glory of
G-d. It is also significant that the comet was broken in 21 pieces representing
the 21 days of this season. In Hebrew Jupiter is "Tzedeq" which means
righteous or righteous one. It is from this term that the name Melchizedek is
derived denoting the King of Righteousness. We can see how Satan has
perverted Jupiter into a symbol of idolatry.

The Kingdom of darkness desperately desires to separate this nation from
Israel. It is attempting to weaken our overall economy by bringing calamity to
various geographic regions so as to destroy vital supplies, produce and
agricultural goods. It is trying to divide this nation by the war in Iraq. Our
country bad mouths our president on a daily basis. The Scriptures
commands us to pray for those who G-d places over us in authority, whether
we agree with their politics or not.

Repentance and genuine sorrow, that is not merely the articulation of our
mouths, but the incentives of our hearts, will pave the way for the impartation
of righteousness and divine authority necessary for defeating our enemies.
Like Israel, we have allowed the spirit of the world to invade our lives
promoting compromise and spiritual error. During these next twenty one days
we are being given the divine opportunity to make this right individually and
corporately. Though geographically separated, we stand united with Israel in
purpose with one mind and passion, to defeat the enemies of our G-d.
