The Haftorah of Ki Tisa is found in 1 Kings 18:1-39.  It records the famous
confrontation between prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal.  Elijah asked the
people how long they would Vacillate between two opinions.  Vacillation involves
betrayal of religious values for the forms in modern society.  In many ways vacillation
is worse than idolatry.  The vacillator cannot see the extent of the errors of his/her
way.  They justify themselves, and their excuses protect them from remorse.  The
person that hovers between two opinions has removed themselves from spiritual
things.  They cannot feel the full measure of their remorse or repent.  They are
willing to trade living waters for broken cisterns.  An idolater is still capable of
spiritual act.  A vacillator returns for all the wrong reasons like material rewards of
money, honor or social states.  A vacillator is double-minded.  The divided mind
hides from itself the fact that it has sinned.  Integrity is destroyed.  They trade
eternity for a passing moment.  Sitting on the fence is worse than crossing over.
