Prayer for those in Authority
If we want to see changes in the nations of the world we must pray.
When in trouble or in need we are quick to pray for ourselves, but 1
Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us to pray first for those in authority over us.
Verse two specifically tells us to pray for Kings (presidents, prime
ministers, government officials and all leadership on the national, state
and local levels).
It does not do any good to bad mouth or criticize leaders or
governments. It actually hinders G-d because we are giving fuel to the
devil. We need to pray for those in authority over us because they will
make the decisions and rules that will determine what kind of quiet and
peaceable life we will live. Even when leaders don’t know G-d, our
prayers allow G-d to work on our behalf. Now our prayers may not
appear to affect anything on a given day, but a law written or passed
that day may affect us years from now. Every prayer is vital.
You may be saying, “but I don’t know how to pray.” Romans 8:26-27
assures us that when we don’t know what or how to pray, the Holy
Spirit intercedes with G-d on \the behalf of mankind.
A simple prayer you could say is, “L-rd, help those in authority and
bless them today. Give them Your wisdom, guidance and direction.”
Praying for those in authority can make a difference and is good and
acceptable in the sight of G-d.
