This siddra looks at the instructions G-d gave regarding the Ark of the
Covenant. This piece of furniture was at the center of the Tabernacle. It was
G-d's throne here on earth. His manifest presence was sin by the children of
Israel as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night coming from the mercy
seat of the ark of the covenant. Today, we are the tabernacle of G-d and our
hearts are His throne in our lives.
In Hebraic thought the heart represented a person's thoughts, will and
intellect. Today we would use the word "mind" for this. Jeremiah 17:9 says,
"The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can
understand it?" G-d promises that He will change our hearts by writing His
Torah on them. (Jer. 31:33)
Just like the ark of the covenant held the two tablets of the covenant (10
commandments), so too does our hearts hold the Torah. When we commit
our lives to be followers of Yeshua, G-d begins the process of recreating our
hearts. We can say as King David said in Psalm 40:8, "I delight to do Your
will, O my G-d; Your Torah is within my heart." May G-d's glory fill your heart.
