The Year of Jubilee is the year that follows seven successive Sabbatic
years. Every 7 years the L-rd required the people and the land to rest for
one year. If the people were obedient to this command He would give them
a bumper crop in the sixth year that would carry them through until the
harvest of the 9th year. So Jubilee fell every 50 years or at least once in a
persons lifetime. It was declared the year of blowing the ram's horn, and the
year of release.
3 things happened during this year:
1.) Rest of the land
2.) Return of property to its original owner
3.) Freeing of Israelites who through poverty or otherwise had become
slaves to their brethren.
During this year there was no tillage or harvest of the land, but what the land
produced spontaneously and of its own accord was free to be utilized by all.
Among the ancient Jews the transfer of property was not the sale of land but
of its produce for a certain number of years. The Price was set and fixed
according to the number of years between the year it was sold and the year
of jubilee. Real estate in walled cities was an exception to this law. If you
lived in a walled city and sold your property you had one year to redeem it.
If the city had no walls the agricultural land was considered the inheritance.
Levites had no appointed inheritance so their houses were released in the
year of jubilee but the pasture land could never be sold. When Israel came
to Canaan, land was alloted to the tribes in Josh. 18-19 and the tribal land
divided up for individuals. Land belonged to the L-rd and was on loan to the
Israelites, as a family was alloted a certain piece of ground, G-d made the
provision that even if they fell into difficult times and had to sell the land to
pay off debts it would remain their everlasting inheritance by reverting back
to their ownership on the year of Jubilee. The Jubilee year was for a new
start, in order to return to take possession of his alloted inheritance. In all of
the commands concerning G-d's desire for man to find both release and
rest in his community it was still up to the people of G-d to bring His will into
existence through their obedience. The Jubilee Year is the symbol of the
Messianic year of grace. (Isa. 61:2)
The design of the Jubilee year is that the people of G-d who through poverty
or adverse circumstances who had forfeited their personal liberty or
property to their fellow brethren should have their debts forgiven by their
fellow believers and be restored to their families (churches) and inheritance
freely and fully as G-d on your day of salvation, who forgave your debts and
restored you to perfect fellowship with himself. When the community
forgives each other it returns to G-d's original order being freed from the
bondage of one another, that we can be the servants of Yeshua who is our
redeemer. G-d wants us to be free from materialism and idolatry so we
have inner peace. It is sin to seek our security in anything material. Jubilee
legislation taught Israel not to be dependent upon or find security in the
accumulation of possessions. Striving for earthly possessions has nothing
to do with living for G-d however much we would like to spiritualize it,
because there is always a selfish desire for us to make our lives easier then
they currently are. G-d intended His people to have peace in their hearts
and enjoy life. By removing materialism it opens the way for us to use
what's earthly to benefit the welfare of our brethren. Sin is what prevents the
Jubilee year from being fulfilled. Sin must be dealt with. The Jubilee year
began on the day of atonement. The believer isn't just someone who
supports, looks after or financially helps a brother in need, we are G-d's
representatives to effect release and liberation for our fellow believer's life
and situation. We are channels for the flow of G-d's power to
brothers/sisters in bondage. Living the life of a believer according to
Scripture with your attitudes in check. It is through the power and will of G-d
that miraculous events take place and effect release in people's lives and
situations. The disciples came together in Acts 4:30 in prayer and
requested G-d to heal. You have received a commission from the L-rd and
that delegated authority with your gift mix. Authority denotes a position of
command. In order for a believer to enforce G-d's authority given to them,
they also must have heaven's power available to them to bring about the will
of G-d. When confronted by a bound situation, the disciples used their
delegated authority and changed the situation. Because we have reached
the age of Jubilee through Yeshua's death and resurrection, G-d's
command is that we also affect those in bondage according to His will and
purpose. We must have faith in the Name of Yeshua. The authority of the
name is absolute and sufficient to overcome any situation. In Yeshua's
Name is not a magic formula. It means in the will and purpose of Yeshua in
accordance with who He is and all He stand for. Our faith in the Name of
Yeshua is necessary to release the power that enforces the authority. It is
the Holy Spirit who effects the release in situations and lives. The Living
water or Holy Spirit that G-d put within believers is not a static provision that
stagnates, but a continual stream that brings life and release to whatever it
waters. The year of Jubilee commanded in the Old Testament sees its
ultimate fulfillment in the person and work of Yeshua HaMashiach, who
brought in release and rest wherever He went. And as Yeshua did so must
we bring release and rest. Pull on your faith expectancy, believe G-d's glory
and manifested power is available to each believer and move to your next
level of assignment in your journey with G-d.
