The building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness was a community project.
G-d's people joined together with a common goal.  That goal was to create a
spiritual house worth of G-d's dwelling Presence.  Each person had to
contribute of their material goods and talents.  It required tanners, weavers,
carpenters, and those skilled in metals.  A life of Torah is not just about
religious rituals and studying Scriptures.  Each of us must develop our own
talents and skills to not only bless ourselves, but also our families and
communities.  The Scriptures admonish us to find productive work so we will
had adequate means to share with others in need.  The rabbis' in the Mishna
(m.Auot 2:2) tell us, "The study of Torah is excellent when it is combined with
a worldly occupation because the effort required by both keeps sin out of a
person's mind."  A person should view their secular job as a mission field for
the Kingdom of G-d.
